Dr. Harsh Vardhan Dedicates to the Nation, the Centre of Excellence in Organ Transplantation at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi

Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan is to formally dedicate the Centre of Excellence in Organ Transplantation at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Kochi on September 08, 2015 (Tuesday). Amrita Institute has emerged as one of the largest centres in India, carrying out organ transplantations. Kerala Chief Minister Shri Oomen Chandy and the Kerala Health Minister Shri V.S. Shivakumar are also to be present on the occasion. Malayalam cine actor Shri Mohanlal, who will be the brand ambassador for Organ Donation, is also to be present.
Over the last 15 years, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre has carried out about 900 cases of transplantations, which includes heart, small intestine, pancreas, bone marrow besides liver and kidney. It is the only facility in South East Asia to carry out hand transplants – the first on a 30-year-old man from Kerala and the second on an ex-army captain from Afghanistan. Transplantation of organs include tissue like Bone Marrow, solid organs like liver, heart, kidney, lung, small intestine, pancreas and composite tissue like hands and face. The organs can be donated by live donors for certain organs or procured from brain dead deceased donors. Such services are backed by a team of specialist doctors, paramedics and support services. Cochin airport first solar powered in India

Cochin airport becomes the first airport in india to run on solar power; spread over 50 acres project is estimated to generate approximately 50,000 units of electricity daily. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today inaugurated a 12 MW solar power project for Cochin International Airport. 
The project is reportedly the single largest solar project which has been constructed in an airport in India. It is spread over 50 acres The project is estimated to generate approximately 50,000 units of electricity daily. Through this project, coupled with an earlier installed capacity of 1.1 MW, the CIAL will technically become 'grid power neutral'.

Kerala govt to create billion-dollar campus for startups

Kerala government is working on a master plan to create a billion dollar startups campus, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday. Chandy was speaking after inaugurating the distribution of startup boxes to 50 young mobile app developers as part of the Youth Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES) 2015, of which the Kerala Startup Mission is the implementing agency.
The startup boxes have vital gadgets for mobile app developers to get started -- a MacBook, iPhone, Google Nexus, Kindles and Arduino starter kit. Putting forward a development strategy for the state, the chief minister said the vibrant business environment created by the young generation entrepreneurs and experienced Non-Resident Keralites can transform Kerala to a developed state by 2030.
